Volkswagen AG‘s Industrial Cloud is an open platform for cloud-based solutions aiming to bring production, logistics and supply chain management up to date for the digital age faster, and provide new digital solutions for production and logistics processes. With it, the entire potential of the “Internet of Things” (IoT) can be harnessed, enabling worldwide data exchange across several different manufacturing plants.
The objective of Industry 4.0 is reality
At the same time, the supporting partner companies can adapt and develop their applications in one of the largest automobile production group environments in the world, as the Industrial Cloud‘s open architecture is also connected to the Production department in addition to standardizing collaborative use and exchange of data. The end result is an open industry platform that allows partners to network with the various VW locations, upload software applications developed according to their own perspectives to the Industrial Cloud, and exchange ideas with others.
Cooperation in VW‘s Industrial Cloud began with GROB‘s assistance with the Volkswagen Motor Polska plant in Polkowice, Poland. GROB was able to integrate 92 third-party and GROB machines into a local cloud system within only three weeks, ensuring digital transparency and connectivity along the entire production process. “VW‘s Industrial Cloud lets us work together at the same level, and we anticipate significant increases to efficiency and production, as does VW,” says Markus Frank, Department Manager of GROB-NET4Industry, of the advantages and expectations in this collaboration.
“GROB-NET4Industry adds effective GROB process optimization solutions to the Industrial Cloud.”
Growing software application range in the Industrial Cloud
AWS technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, Data Analysis and Computing Services sectors upgraded to suit Volkswagen and automobile industry specifications form the backbone for cross-system, cross-plant data exchange. The Volkswagen Group means to continuously expand the software applications range for its plants with the support of new business partners.
